10-7-17 - PV Goes to the Opera - USR, Ridgewood

PV made a triumphant return to its original "home base", the Unitarian Society of Ridgewood, on Saturday October 7th to celebrate its 15th Anniversary Season.  The program featured Metropolitan Opera Star Barbara Dever, mezzo-soprano, in the World Premiere of Thomas Juneau's "Songs of the Laurel Tree", a set of five songs centered on poems about Daphne and Apollo. It was PV's 78th new work since the inception of its "Mission to Commission"(R) in 2003, and the work's glorious harmonies and colorful textures delighted musicians and audience alike.  Other works on the program included a medley of arias from Mozart's Magic Flute, a transcription of the Overture from Scott Joplin's only opera, Treemonisha, the famous "Flower Duet" from Lakme by Leo Delibes and Barbara Dever's show-stopping rendition of "Mon Coeur" from Saint-Saens' Samson & Davila.  Here are pictures of the artists after the concert.

PV @ Forte Piano 5-13-17

PV was thrilled to release its 6th album of New American Masters at the lovely concert hall inside Forte Piano, Paramus, NJ.  Our thanks to Vladimir & Dina for making everything easy for us!  This is a great little hall with wonderful acoustics! Our audience was treated to some of our favorite pieces in addition to selections from all seven of the works on our new CD. We even premiered a new piece by Jacob Craig which was commissioned for us by our beloved friend, Jean Geisler. Here are a few photos from the evening---

PV presents 2016 Young Artist Recognition Award winner!

PV with 2016 Award winner, Jeffrey Grenier

For ten years Palisades Virtuosi has been promoting young artists from Bergen County.  Each year a local high school is selected from a random draw and the music director at that school is asked to select a senior (or a junior) student who exemplifies excellence in artistic ability and also great leadership qualities.  This year the award has been given to Jeffrey Grenier, a senior at Ridgefield Memorial High School in Ridgefield, NJ.  With the award comes a chance to perform on a Palisades Virtuosi concert, a beautiful plaque contributed by the Trophy King in Teaneck, NJ and a small honorarium.

Jeffrey Greiner is a Baritone who studies privately with Montclair University's Professor George Spitzer and hopes to one day attend college as a vocal music education major. He is active in many music related extracurricular activities including his school’s select choir, men’s choir, jazz band, marching band, percussion ensemble, and his annual musicals. On one recent competition trip, he was awarded a Jazz Flugelhorn improvisation solo award. He also participates in numerous honors choirs each year including 4 years of Bergen County Choir, 3 years of North Jersey Regional Choir (yet to audition for his 4th year), and finally 3 of 3 years in All-State Choir. On October 22, he placed first for upper High School classical men in the NJ NATS Annual Doris Lenz Festival for High School singers.

Jeffrey performed an aria by Handel to great applause on the recent Palisades Virtuosi concert at the Fair Lawn Community Center theater.  We congratulate him and wish him well in his future endeavors!

PV @ Fair Lawn - 11-4-16

We had a great time on Friday night at our concert in Fair Lawn.  A new World Premiere by composer Joseph M. Russo, two new PV "corruptions" - "Friendship Rag" by David Greenfield Bowie [originally for solo piano] and a medley of Beatles tunes we had fun transcribing for flute, clarinet & piano.  Also we presented our 2016 award winner, Jeffrey Grenier - more on that in a separate post.  Here are a few photos from the evening!

PV - FALL CONCERT @ THE RIDGEWOOD CONSERVATORY

Palisades Virtuosi presented its first fall concert of some of their favorite works by French composers in the Recital Hall at The Ridgewood Conservatory at 409 Sette Drive in Paramus, NJ. The school's director, Lou Caimano was featured on saxophone as guest artist with the trio.

The members of PV are all currently teaching at the conservatory and are planning to add further dimensions to their roles there as instructors with this residency. Among the plans are beginning a program for coaching chamber music and periodic offerings of master classes for the students at the school.

Here they are with Lou & Jan Caimano following the concert.

PV Premieres 75th New Work!

Friday June 10, 2016 - Fair Lawn

This evening Palisades Virtuosi premiered its 75th New Work for flute, clarinet & piano at the Fair Lawn Community Center.  Composer Roger Stubblefield's "Fire Diamond" Opus 18 was a rousing success. A programmatic work following a legend of the composer's own imagination moved from majestic to pensive, then to an exhilarating finale.   Also on the program, Matthew Baier's "Syzygy", a transcription commissioned by PV in 2005 which is a fascinating and dance-like 12-tone work soon to be recorded on PV's New American Masters, Volume 6. Here are photos from the evening.
